Reading Thursday: Saving Fish from Drowning

I'm always reading, usually more than one book at a time. Right now, though, I'm only reading Amy Tan's Saving Fish from Drowning.

After an intriguing introduction and a sort of fun first chapter the book is starting to slow down for me. I still find Bibi Chen to be an interesting character and love how her mind works and where she gets distracted and what she goes on about.... but right now the backstory is getting in the way of the story.

I'm only just starting chapter 3, and I feel the pace beginning to pick up a little so I hope that the backstory is nearly finished so the real tale can begin.

Basic plot from BN.com : "Twelve American tourists join an art expedition that begins in the Himalayan foothills of China - dubbed the true Shangri-La - and heads south into the jungles of Burma. But after the mysterious death of their tour leader, the carefully laid plans fall apart, and disharmony breaks out among the pleasure-seekers as they come to discover that the Burma Road is paved with less-than-honorable intentions, questionable food, and tribal curses.

And then, on Christmas morning, eleven of the travelers boat across a misty lake for a sunrise cruise - and disappear."

Has anyone else read this book? Does the pace pick up?

EDIT :

Bookmark match for this book would be my Wall bookmark I think - because it most reminds me of a museum or art gallery.

I've never read it, but it looks like my type of book. Have you read "The Woman Warrior" by Maxine Hong? It's a memoir that reads like fiction. Great book.

Love the bookmark. I lose all of mine, and end up using sweet-n-low packets as markers.
